​Scheduled Events for 2026









Registration for scheduled events will be at the event start point unless otherwise specified in the event brochure (see links below).  Due to the increasing fee the AVA is charging clubs per walk, we have raised our registration fee to $4 for IVV credit.  For walkers not seeking IVV credit (aka “Guest Walkers”), if a person is walking as a first-time guest at one of our group walks, they can walk for free, and the club will pick up the $2 fee for that walk. For any subsequent times they walk with us, they will be required to pay the $2 guest fee.

NEXT GROUP WALK

Our next group walk will be the Athens, Alabama YRE on Saturday March 7, 2026 at 9:30 a.m. We will meet at the Big Spring Memorial Park.

Directions to Start Point: Traveling North on I-65 take Exit 351. Travel West on Hwy 72 and continue approximately 1.5 miles. Bear right on Clinton Street and proceed approximately 1 mile. Turn right on Market, then go straight ahead into Big Spring Memorial Park. The start point for the walk is at the Athens Visitor’s Center which is at the park.

(NOTE: Please go straight to the Athens Visitor’s Center rather than the Hampton Inn where the walk box is normally located. Karen will pick up the registration book and stamp pad, etc. from the walk box and bring it over to the Athens Visitor’s Center)


After the walk, we will have lunch at Ro's Grille. It is located at 126 N Jefferson St, Athens, AL, 35611. Ph 256-230-2716

Year Round Events (YRE)

The Capital City Wanderers offers 7 events that may be walked during daylight hours, any day the start point is opened though December 31, 2026.  At each location except Monroeville, Montevallo, and Wetumpka, there is a "Volksmarch Box" or "Walk Box" which contains instructions for registering.  For Monroeville, Montevallo, and Wetumpka, we are only using the Online Start Box feature on the AVA website.   Every participant must register.  Additional information can be found on the AVA website under Find a Walk.

Conditions

Everyone is welcome to participate.  Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.  Pets must be on a leash at all times.  Litter should be discarded in proper receptacles.  No alcoholic beverages are allowed along the course.
